Stefania & Jørgen Aspelund
Kulen, Selje
Stefania Jørgine Dorthea Larsdatter Eriksen was born at Kulen, Selje, on 26 January 1901, one of the nine children of Lars Bernhard Eriksen and his wife Charlotte Amalie Eline By Eriksen (born Staffansdotter). She married Jørgen Simon Olai Ulrikson Aspelund who was also from Kulen, born there 5 August 1902. Jørgen was a fisherman. The families grew up next door to one another and there is much complexity in the family names used, including Kulen, Ospelund, Aspelund, Eriksen and others.

It is presently unclear how Jørgen and Stefania travelled to Scotland. They appear not to have come via the Shetland Bus, or at least their names have not been recorded. Investigations are still ongoing into their arrival in Buckie. They lived in Main Street in Buckpool, in the same house as Carl Bakken.
Stefania died at Seafield Hospital, Buckie following a cerebral haemorrhage on 27 March 1942.
Jørgen subsequently married, at Enzie Parish Church, Annie Smith Thain and they had one daughter, Dagny Aspelund. The marriage did not however work out and they subsequently divorced. Annie later remarried and went to Australia. Jørgen died in Norway on 9 May 1973 at the age of seventy. Stefania was buried in Buckie New Cemetery. Peter Christensen and Aud Oline Ramstad lie on either side of her.
